Altera releases the Nios II Basic Computer Systems
The DE2/DE1 Basic Computer Systems
are intended to be used as a platform for introductory experiments in computer
organization and embedded systems. They come with various examples to
help users to start programming for the Nios II processor in both C and
assembly languages.

Altera Adds the DE2-70 to the Line Up of Teaching Boards
The DE2-70 Development and Education
board builds upon the success of the DE2. Doubling the size of the FPGA and adding
significantly more memory, the DE2-70 extends the capabilities of the DE2
family. The DE2-70 lists for $599 for commercial customers with a significant
discount for qualified universities.

Altera and Terasic Technologies Ships the Fifteen Thousandth DE2!
This month marks the date of the shipment of number 15,000 DE2 board. The DE2 is
well on the way to being the most used education board in history. This
milestone has been accomplished in less than two year since introduction.
(The previous record holder was the Altera UP2 with 18,000 boards over a 7
year period)

Innovate Nordic Design Contest a Success
Students from four countries in Scandinavia participated in the first
annual Innovate Nordic Contest. Using the DE1 board students created designs
and implemented them using the Cyclone II FPGA and Quartus II software.

The DE1 Development and Education board
is the perfect board for student usage and self study. Priced below
the cost of a typical textbook, the DE1 has many of the same features of the
popular DE2. Students can use the DE1 at home for lab preparation, and quickly
convert their designs to the DE2 for use in the lab at school.

Launch of the Altera® Debug Client for Nios® II Processor
The Altera Debug Client allows students to easily compile and
debug both assembly language and C programs. It displays the status of
the Nios II embedded soft processor as programs are executed, such
as the contents of processor registers and system memory, and includes
features such as program single step, breakpoints, and program trace.

Innovate Design Contest in India
100 student teams with over 400 students participated in the first annual
Altera Innovate Design Contest. Teams used Altera boards and tools to design
and construct projects that ranged from electro-medical devices to video

China Cup Attracts 500 Students
Altera hosted the fifth annual China Cup in Beijing, China. Over 500
students in 100 teams competed to create the best design using an
Altera FPGA, the Quartus II design software, and the Nios II embedded
processor.
